Get your money into Relae
The whole picture: which of your systems to bring in, in what order, and what happens to each one.
Your giving is spread across a few places. A ticketing platform, a donation page, a spreadsheet somebody keeps, maybe a chequebook. Relae pulls them together so you can see one donor, not four fragments of one.
Start with the biggest, messiest one
It is tempting to start with the small tidy file. Do the opposite. Your largest source sets up most of your donor records, and everything you import afterwards has something to match against. Starting small means every later import creates duplicates you then have to merge.
Two ways in
- A file. You export a spreadsheet or CSV from wherever your data lives and upload it. Works for anything. This is how most orgs start.
- A connection. You give Relae a key to a platform once, and it keeps itself up to date. Eventbrite works this way today.
What happens after you import
- 1Relae reads the file or the connection and shows you what it found before anything is saved.
- 2It matches each gift to a donor you already have, or creates the donor if this is their first appearance.
- 3Anything it is genuinely unsure about goes to Review, which should be a short list, not a mountain.
- 4The import appears in Sources with an Undo next to it.
Every import can be undone in one click, and undo really does undo: it removes the donors it created and the gifts it added, and leaves alone anyone you have worked on since. Import first, worry later.
