Set up how your event door works
Tell Relae what actually happens when someone shows up, so ticket money is counted the way you count it.
Organisations run events differently, and the difference is entirely about what happens to the money. Relae needs to know which way you do it, or it will guess, and guessing about money is how giving totals go wrong.
Pick the one that sounds like you
- Straight ticketing. You sell tickets. A ticket is a ticket, and a donation is a separate thing somebody chooses to give. Most organisations.
- Deposit conversion. People pay something up front to hold a place. At the door they either let you keep it as a donation, or take it back. Common for pay-what-you-can and community concerts.
- Pay what you can. The whole payment is a donation. There is no ticket price as such.
- Advantage split. Galas and benefit dinners. A $250 ticket includes an $80 dinner, so only $170 is a donation as far as the CRA is concerned.
If you run a gala, read this bit
For a benefit event you can only receipt the part above what the guest received. Relae cannot work out what your dinner was worth, because no ticketing system records it. You tell Relae the value, and it does the arithmetic on every ticket from then on. If you leave it blank Relae receipts nothing for that event, which is deliberate: receipting too little is fixable, receipting too much is a problem with the CRA.
