Document 12: Email and Communications Terms (CASL)

Plain-language summary: This explains the email Relae itself sends (things like password resets and account notices), which follows Canada's anti-spam law. It also confirms the important rule: Relae does not send fundraising emails to your donors; the Platform can help draft them, and you send them from your own email, as the sender of record.

1. System email only

Email that Relae sends is operational and transactional email, for example password resets, account notices, security alerts, and invitations. Most of these are transactional messages exempt from CASL consent requirements; where a message is promotional, Relae includes the sender identification CASL requires and a working unsubscribe mechanism, and honours unsubscribe requests promptly.

2. Relae does not send to Donors

Relae does not send fundraising or marketing messages to Donors. The Platform's drafting features (for example thank-you drafting) produce drafts only; the Customer sends them from the Customer's own systems and is the sender of record, responsible for CASL consent, sender identification, and unsubscribe for its donor communications.

3. Customer responsibility

The Customer is responsible for compliance with CASL and applicable law for all communications it sends to its Donors, including obtaining and documenting the consent CASL requires. Relae's drafting assistance does not transfer any of that responsibility to Relae, and Relae makes no representation that draft content satisfies a given recipient's consent status.
